Balsall Common Lions support the Island Project

When we heard that the Island Project was looking for support with their outdoor learning centre Balsall Common Lions were only too pleased to help. The Island Project, based near Stonebridge Island, is a school dedicated to supporting autistic children. The school had already started developing its garden as an additional teaching resource and had secured a sponsor for a classroom. The Lions have helped complete the project by funding a shed and base, installed by Vesey and Smith, and with the help of Sonny Jevons, a staff member, provided a range of tools including an adjustable rake and a two wheeled wheelbarrow. “The children already call the shed the Lion’s Den” reports Sonny, “Having somewhere for each tool to be hung in its own place is most important for the children as order and routine are vital to them. Having nice tools and looking after them is also part of the learning process”. Pictured are staff members Sonny and Kath with the “den” and the tools, neatly arranged.
