Towcester Lions celebrate World Sight Day

Towcester and District Lions organise the Towcester Farmers Market using the profits to support local charities. The autumn markets are always buzzing with displays of the year’s local harvest from the fields and the orchards. October’s market on Friday 12th was no exception and the Lions welcomed another new trader, Sam’s Cakes and Treats. For more than six years Sam Walker has been home-baking gourmet novelty cup cakes and wedding cakes. Breakfast rolls are also available at her stall. She offers sugar-, dairy- and flour-free cakes to order. You can meet her at the December Farmer’s Market on Friday 14th December. Before that, meet all the other stallholders at the November Market on Friday 9th November.

The Lions own stall had a display of sight-related material to celebrate World Sight Day. The Lions spent the day explaining to the public that World Sight Day is a global event that focuses on raising awareness of blindness and vision impairment. Although World Sight Day is observed on the second Thursday of October, this year Towcester Lions have twice had displays encouraging people not to put off having regular eye tests.

The Lions also donated £1000 from the Towcester Midsummer Music Festival to Diabetes UK who organise events for young people to help them manage their diabetes condition, which may include sight problems.
