Acocks Green’s Woodland Walk

Acocks Green’s Woodland Walk

The Birmingham Federation of Clubs for Young People working in partnership with Acocks Green Lions Club recently organised a sponsored woodlands walk. Using the Log Cabin and campsite as a base the walk of about 5 miles around Earlswood Lakes and local countryside attracted all age groups. The intrepid ramblers set off in beautiful weather (surprise, surprise) and the sun shone down on the walkers for the rest of the day.

Birds of prey and rescue horses welcomed the walkers back to the site where hot dogs and hot drinks were served up by the Lions in the marquee which is part of the tent village. A demonstration by a harrier hawk and pony rides were really appreciated by everyone present, helping to make the whole day special.

The funds raised will be split between the “Fed”, Acocks Green Lions Club and Troop Aid.

The 29th September has been set for the 2013 walk with a promise that it will be more of a Fun Day. Ideas for next year are a market in the tent village, a prize hunt for children in the woods, goal scoring competition, children’s races, sack races, face painting and a competition using the low level activity course. If you are a sponsored walker you can bring the kids along, bring a picnic and enjoy the fresh air and open spaces.

You know it will do you good!
