Coventry Leofric Lions Club were recently made aware of a local lad, Milan Patel, who was suffering from “Ewing’s Sarcoma” a rare bone cancer affecting just 80 people in the UK each year and a condition where the average age of each patient is just 15. They were made aware of Milan’s illness when approached by Tim Walton, a fund raiser from the Bone Cancer Trust.

Whilst hospitalised, Milan was faced with major surgery and long painful treatments of chemotherapy radiotherapy. Sickness and the risk of secondary infections are commonplace with these treatments. This, combined with the uncertainty of the long term prognosis, has lowered Milan’s self- esteem and affected his immediate family as they have come to terms with his illness.

The club decided to support Milan’s family and raise public awareness of “Ewing’s Sarcoma” by organising a fund raising musical concert on the 30th November 2013. For the night’s enjoyment Don Maclean, Birmingham comedian will compare the evening, whilst a 22 piece Big Band and local choirs which will assure an enjoyable sing along evening.

Tim raised £1300 from the 2012 Coventry Walkathon and sets his sights on raising more for Bone Cancer Research walking this year. The event which is organized by the Coventry Leofric Lions Club will be held on Sunday 12 May at the Coventry War memorial Park. Supporters are welcome to join Tim’s team.

In addition to this event the Lions have arranged two treats for Milan; a trip to see his favourite football team the Arsenal play Wigan on 12th May and a day out to Drayton Manor Theme Park for the whole family. He was also presented with an Arsenal shirt and scarf.
