Walsall Students Excel

On Saturday 11th May the Aldridge & District Lions Club held their 24th Charter Anniversary dinner at Jerome’s Restaurant at Walsall College.

Lions President, Harry Fry said, “We have held our charter dinners at local restaurants and hotels in the past but we thought we would have a change this year and support local students at the Walsall College. The whole evening was a tremendous success with excellent food and service. The students certainly excelled on our occasion.”

The Aldridge Lions Club hosted over 40 guests with both past and present members of the Club present plus visitors from 7 other clubs from around the region and from further afield.

Guest of honour was the Lions District Governor, Paul Anstice. In his response speech, Mr Anstice commented on the work of the Lions on an international basis and the ongoing effort which had been made by the Lions of Aldridge & District Club over the past year. Recent beneficiaries of donations from the Club include Marie Curie Trust, Walsall Arthritis Care and Walsall Arthritis Support Group, Cancer Research, Help for Heroes, RNLI, Aldridge Youth Theatre, Parkinson’s Disease Society, Walsall Heartcare and local Scouts and Guides. During the last financial year nearly thirty different organisations and individuals benefited from over £8000 of donations from the Club.

The work of the various Lions clubs was discussed between members but the major talking point of the evening was the fine dining experience enjoyed by all those present at Jerome’s Restaurant.
