Warwick Lions’ Fun Day

Warwick Lions’ Fun Day

At 1 pm on Saturday 29th June in the arena in St Nicholas Park, the Mayor of Warwick, Councillor Bob Dhillon, declared the Warwick Lions Fun Day open.

Lion President Norman Winnett was chief judge in the fancy dress competition which was won by a girl dressed as Gimli from The Lord of the Rings, carrying a dangerous looking cardboard battleaxe. Second prize went to a girl charmingly dressed as Alice in Wonderland. Each won a cup and a £20 book voucher kindly provided by Warwick Books. 3rd place and winner of a cup was dressed as a wolf.

Bateria Acid Samba Band from Rugby made a splendid noise needing no amplification as they played and danced.

Jan Prymaka of JRCS Falconry had a rather fraught afternoon as his wild stars seldom did what was expected of them. Recovering his vulture from the public enclosure was hilarious. However all the birds returned eventually.

The Lions ran the children’s games including archery, pellet gun target shooting, goal shooting and lawn darts. Later Lion President Norman went round the arena distributing medals to all the small children.

Liz England with her Fit 2 Dance group encouraged everyone to join in. She even managed to persuade distinguished Lion Past District Governor Neil Chisholm to join in. He is better at governing than dancing.

Hayley and her team from Taming Canines Dog Agility had their dogs jumping over poles, running through a tunnel, over a see-saw and up and over a ramp as they all attempted an obstacle course.
