Shirley Lions Carnival

Shirley Lions Carnival

Glorious weather saw the crowds turn out to a successful Shirley Lions Carnival raising around £4,000 for local charities. This was in stark contrast to last year when the weather was so bad that Shirley Park was flooded and the event had to be rescheduled to September. But there were no such problems this year as sun drenched carnival goers were entertained by a variety of local talent on a music and dance theme.

The carnival was opened by local MP, Lorely Burt, seen here enjoying an ice cream with Lion President Gillian Conlon.

Thereafter the entertainment got under way with a performance form the Shirley Pipe Band, who understandably this year did not wear their full outfits and bearskins!

The afternoon continued with performances from the Silver Shadow Majorettes, Stardust Dance Academy, Solihull Rock School, SoLO Drumtastic and Gemz Dance Academy.

Small children were not forgotten as they enjoyed the fairground rides and the ever popular Punch & Judy.

The event saw a record 75 stalls in attendance all raising funds for their own organisations through a wide variety of games and stalls. What was really pleasing was the fact that Marston Green, Acocks Green, Moseley & Kings Heath and Birmingham Chinatown Lions all attended with their own fundraising games and stalls. These together with Shirley Lions own stalls meant that wherever the public wandered around there was always a Lions logo to be seen.
