Lion Martin Conlon of Shirley Lions is a keen genealogist and although he knew his family originated from County Mayo in Ireland had been unable to prove anything conclusively via the internet.
The only option was for Lion Martin and his wife, Lion President Gillian to take a short holiday to County Mayo and search round personally.
Whilst visiting numerous libraries and record offices they met a local Lion who helped out as much as was possible.
Although the visit proved rather unsuccessful as far the genealogy went a good time was had with the local Ballina Lions and Bannerettes were duly exchanged.
Thereafter the drinking commenced and whilst Lion President Gillian was happy enough to partake of a traditional Guinness it was rather strange to see Immediate Past President of Ballina Lions, John Kenny and current President, Lion Seamie (pronounced Shaymee) Rice only on the lager!
