The last couple of months have been extremely busy for Balsall Common Lions as a number of significant donations have been made.

Things commenced when they supplied a Dressing trolley, Oxygen saturation monitor, Dopler and Scales to the local Health Centre. The Centre approached the Lions to see if they could help them to purchase these vital pieces of equipment and the Lions were of course very glad to be able to make a donation of £1200 towards them.

The picture shows the Health Centre Nurses accepting two dispensing containers for the Message in a Bottle canisters. These will be put in a prominent site within the Health Centre for patients to be able to help themselves. To date Balsall Common Lions have distributed 1200 canisters throughout Balsall Common and Meriden district. These dispensers will hopefully raise the awareness of the availability of the Message in the Bottle canisters.

This was followed up by a donation to provide St John Ambulance Training for the children of Balsall Common, Berkswell Primary and Lady Katherine Levison Schools.

A teacher from Lady Levison School wrote to tell us we had inspired the children and we have received some wonderful letters of thanks. As one child said “During First Aid, I enjoyed many things yet my favourite was bandaging! Days after the course, we were all still bandaging each other up and practising for the future”.

Every July the Lions take their game 'Balls in The Bog' to Berkswell School fete. As a result of this Balsall Common Lions donated £250 to the Berkswell School Association.

As well as making these donations every other Friday throughout the year they hold Bingo sessions at Balsall Common Village Hall. During the evening ten games are played with two prizes for each game plus there is a Snowball game. If the snowball is not won the game carries on until there is a winner who gets a Chicken Dinner. There is also a raffle with many nice prizes to be won. In the photo below can be seen some of our regular players who come along and enjoy an evening of fun and friendship.
