Kingswinford & Stourbridge Lions help Transition Stourbridge clean the River Stour

On two Sundays in July members from Kingswinford & Stourbridge Lions helped Transition Stourbridge clean a very small stretch of the river Stour in Lye. Together with over 20 other volunteers a small stretch of the local river was cleared of items that had been dumped both directly into and onto the banks of the river. Volunteers worked in the river itself to remove items that had been dumped.

These were then pulled out on to the bank and removed for collection. Other volunteers picked up rubbish and other items that had been left on the river bank. The photographs below show just some of the items that were removed in just three hours on the first Sunday.

You will also notice on the group image below that there are two wheel barrows. After the first working party we joined in, we learned that one of their group had used his own garden wheel barrow for moving rubbish and had effectively wrecked it. K&S Lions saw an opportunity to help the clean up group, and the local environment, and provided the two builder's barrows you see in the photo. This was the first day of use.

If you would like to help with this very worthwhile project and at the same time improve your local area and environment please let us know.
