Zone I come together on a humanitarian issue

Through his daughter who works at Thorndale Care Home in Kettering, Lion President Mike Garlick of Corby Lions became aware of an assistant cook at the Home, Nid, who has a terminal cancer diagnosis and wishes to return to Thailand to be with her family.

Mike approached Corby and Kettering Lions who quickly pledged £100 each. At the suggestion of Region Chairman Lion John Gray, an appeal was put out across the Zone and with the help of Thurnby, Lutterworth and Market Harborough clubs we soon had a total of £700. With individual donations and activities at Thorndale over £1800 has been raised which covers flight costs and a small memorial.

An excellent example of inter club co-operation on a humanitarian issue. Nid has now had her third and possibly last treatment and will hopefully be returning to Thailand with her husband in the near future.
