Lion Chris Burrows
I have been a member of Shirley Lions Club since 2006 and was their Secretary in 2007 and then chosen as their President in 2012. Following my year in office I was asked to become Chair of Zone C a post I held from July 2013 until June 2015. During my time as Zone Chair the Clubs in the Zone organised and hosted the District Convention in 2014. I was then most fortunate to be elected to the position of 2nd Vice District Governor at our Convention in 2015 and subsequently 1st VDG at Convention 2016. This year I was again fortunate to be chosen as DG Elect.
I have now been formally sworn in by our new International President (Dr Naresh Aggarwal) at the Chicago International Convention and what a fabulous event that was to mark our Centennial Year.
I am a Surveyor by profession and Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors as well as being a corporate member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply and a full member of the Association for Project Management. I previously held senior management positions within the Department for the Environment; the Ministry of Defence and more latterly as Director of Facilities at Solihull College before branching out into private practice with a large international consultancy.
The Short Term Plan that I developed when 2nd VDG should hopefully guide and help us through the transition into whatever new arrangements are ultimately agreed at Multi District Convention. My aim is therefore to:
- Support the District Cabinet in its administration of the District.
- Support membership initiatives.
- Support Clubs and make District and MD more relevant to their needs.
- Support the necessary and agreed changes and make the transition into the new structure as easy as possible.
- Support members in whatever way I can.
- Take the Lions movement forward into the 21st Century.
This district is one of twelve in the British Isles and one of 750 or so districts in 208 countries throughout the world in a humanitarian service organisation with 1.4 million members worldwide, Lions Clubs International. Please browse our website at your leisure and find out more about the wonderful work that lions do locally, nationally and internationally. If you canít find all the information you are looking for please follow the Ďcontact usí link at the bottom of the page so that someone can give you the information you require.
As an organisation Lions Clubs International has many strands of activity whether it is supporting young people through our Young Leaders in Service and Young Ambassador programmes, promoting health projects related to sight, speech and hearing and diabetes amongst others, helping the environment through the planting of trees or providing humanitarian aid to the victims of natural and man-made disasters. What is more we do it all without passing any of our administration costs on to the public so that every penny that we raise can be used to help others.
What we do need are more ordinary people to be inspired and to come and join us so that we can do even more. Lions do a lot of amazing things and get a lot of personal satisfaction from doing them as well as establishing friendships that last a lifetime. So come and help us make a difference through service and find out how much fun it can be to be a Lion.
