Lions Clubs from around the region helped raise £1,000 for Compton Hospice, which included a number of members taking part in a sponsored walk in their night wear to help the cause.

The Black Country clubs chose Compton’s Hospice at Home service as one of their charities to support, and individual clubs, including Aldridge and District, Kingswinford and Stourbridge, and Walsall, made donations following various fund-raising activities.

Members from Wolverhampton, Bilston and Willenhall and Dudley Lion Clubs helped raise money for their donations by taking part in the Pyjama Walk in Cannon Hill Park in Birmingham.

Trevor Jones, from Wolverhampton Lion Club said: “It was great to support such a worthwhile cause, and have fun at the same time.

“It is so important that patients can be surrounded by family and friends in their own home, but with the support of a specialist team from Compton Hospice.

“Overall, contributions resulted in a donation to Compton Hospice of £1,000 for them to continue their excellent work.”

Sally Woods, Compton community fund-raiser, thanked all the club members who had made such a great effort to raise the money, as well as helping to highlight the hospice’s home service.

“We could not operate such services without the generosity of our supporters, and the Lions Clubs across the Black Country have been wonderful in helping us financially, and helping to raise the profile of our Home Service,” she said.

The Hospice at Home Service enables 24-hour practical care and specialist support for patients in their final days, in their own home.

The service is free of charge and gives the patient and their family a real choice on where they want to spend the time they have left.
