38th Annual Senior Citizens Party

The occasion of the 38th Annual Lions Senior Citizens Party was again blessed this year with sunshine, when some 180 Senior Citizens from Southam and surrounding villages were treated last weekend to an afternoon of fun at Southam College.

This year’s event was organised by Lion President Steve Hoyle who, with typical military precision, and drawing on his forces background, deployed an army of Lions volunteers and conscripts alike, to collect guests, and attend to refreshments throughout the afternoon.

The Lions President opened with a short address following which, guests, fuelled with Sherry and Chocolate then enjoyed a packed programme of entertainment, starting with Paul Gunton (The Minstrel), one of the original members of the New Seekers group, who sang a medley of songs old and new, with enthusiastic participation from the audience.

After a lavish tea, provided courtesy of the Lion’s Ladies, guests were treated to a touching performance from Southam’s own Love Ballet troupe of dancers, ages ranging from 3 to 12 years old.

Proceedings were finally brought to an end by Paul Gunton who returned to conduct the audience in rousing “Last Night at the Proms” style choruses and thunderous applause.

Will there be a party again next year?.......................too right there will!
