Memory Box Presentation

The Kettering Lions Club has made a presentation of thirty one precious memory boxes to the Rockingham Suite Maternity Unit.

These were purchased from SANDS, the Stillborn and Neonatal Death charity which supports and advises parents whose baby is stillborn or dies after a few days. The boxes contain items which help them to remember, and includes a disposable camera, a small box for a locket of hair, inkless pads to take hand and footprints, a hand crocheted blanket and a teddy and several other items.

KGH bereavement support midwife, Lynn Garratt said that this is a difficult topic that is rarely openly discussed, but unfortunately 1 in 200 births are affected. The precious memory box is very comforting to parents, and helps them at such a distressing time. The Lions donated boxes last year, but all of them have been used, so they have now replaced them, as President John Geary said that they felt that this is a local need that deserved to be supported from the money that they raise in the Kettering area.
