Bollywood Night Extravaganza

The Lions of Wellesbourne are roaring about their successful joint event run with Shah’s Restaurant recently. The “Bollywood Night Extravaganza” saw a packed restaurant treated to a sumptuous banquet plus traditional Indian music, songs and dance all to raise funds for the Lions International “Sight Savers Programme”. The evening raised a magnificent £750 which has been designated for an eye-camp in Bangladesh, home of owner Shah Hussain and his staff.

Lion President Dave Brown explained….”eye camps are set up by local Lions Clubs in third world countries which enable skilled trained surgeons and nurses to provide temporary field hospitals to assess and treat patients many of whom will walk miles for treatment. The £750 we’ve raised goes a long way when you consider a sight saving cataract operation costs only £17 to restore someone’s sight, or £250 can support ongoing eye care services.”

Amongst the guests at the Bollywood Night Extravaganza was Midlands Sight Officer Lion Ian Haffner, from Worcester Lions Club, who complimented the Wellesbourne Lions and Shah’s for their initiative which coincides with the 25th year of the “Sight Savers” partnership. Coincidentally the very first mobile eye care unit was set up in 1972 in Bangladesh. Since then over £3million has been raised to support the eradication of preventable blindness and restoration of sight in the developing world, and campaign for equal rights for people who are blind and visually impaired.
