Ordinary People doing Amazing Things

Christmas Card Delivery

Lutterworth have been doing it for over 20 years so it must be a good idea. Market Harborough Lions decided that they needed to do something over the Christmas period and as imitation is the sincerest form of flattery – they decided to copy Lutterworth.

Lutterworth deliver about 16000 cards to the town and villages but Market Harborough is many times bigger so the deliveries, for the first year, will be restricted to the environs of Market Harborough. Boxes have been put in seven different locations and publicity has already been given by the local newspaper, The Harborough Mail, and the local Radio station HarboroughFM.

The boxes are in position, the town has been divided into 12 routes, and the local Scout Group will help with deliveries – now all that is needed is Christmas Cards – but not too many please for our first attempt.

Lion John Bush is Postmaster and the cards will be sorted into alphabetical street names, then into routes and each card stamped with a stamp giving details of Market Harborough Lions. That should be the easy bit; they then have to be delivered.

The funds raised are based upon trust, money is put into the secure boxes with the cards and it is suggested that “about 15p”, half the cost of the second class stamp, is donated.
