Festive Walk Record

Ideal walking weather brought record crowds of fundraisers to Baddesley Clinton National Trust House on Monday 28th December for this year’s Lions Charity Festive Walk organised by Knowle & Dorridge Lions Club

‘This is the 17th year our Club have organised this great community fundraising day just after Christmas’, said organising Lion Simon Newell. ‘We were delighted to welcome a record of over 850 people who set off for the choice of 4, 7 or 10 mile walks around the area. Over £4,000 was received in donations to Teenage Cancer Trust, Parkinson’s Disease Society, fly2help and local Lions causes during the day, and we are hopeful that those collecting sponsorship will eventually double this figure.’

Some of the Dorridge Scouts with families and friends set off past the church at Baddesley Clinton.

‘The snowy weather over Christmas and with more forecast seemed to motivate people to take advantage of the freezing cold but otherwise dry day with many tackling the longer 7 & 10 mile sign-posted routes this year. Many locals who turn up every year and others that travel from further afield say it’s great to get out and get some good fresh country air and walk off the Christmas pudding with friends and family. Afterwards walkers enjoyed mulled wine and mince pies with the Lions. We thank the National Trust for allowing us to use Baddesley Clinton NT House which provides a great setting for the Festive Walks.’

Anyone who was unable to walk on the day, but would like to follow the routes can visit the Lions website www.KnowleandDorridgeLions.com/Walk where they will be able to download the route map.
