Bromsgrove Charter - What a great way to finish a detox diet

What a great way to finish a detox diet. Celery and Stilton Soup, then Roasted Lamb with Apricot Stuffing, followed by Rhubarb Crumble with custard and cream, yummy…… Where was I you might ask? Well I was at the Bromsgrove Lions Charter along with nearly 90 other people. A 5-piece band played a fantastic variety of music starting with the main theme of the evening, ABBA. Fellow Lions turned up in 70’s fancy dress costumes, wigs were everywhere, some men were hardly recognisable especially Regional Chairman Dave Jeavons who had acquired a most curvaceous figure for the occasion. Had he raided his wife’s wardrobe we all thought? Lion President Heather (Malvern) was not to be outdone by her husband and was sporting a fantastic pair of hot pants. The prize for the best-dressed couple however, went to Worcester Lion President June and her husband Trevor, ABBA reborn was definitely the theme for the evening.

Helen White President of Bromsgrove gave, as she promised, a short speech announcing that between last year’s charter and this one Bromsgrove had donated £10,000 to worthwhile causes. DG Femi came up trumps as he gave, as requested, an enthusiastic brief speech about Lions in service. He was delighted to be able to present to charter member Alan Meredith a 30 year service chevron and an appreciation certificate from the Bromsgrove club members. Femi,in return received a cheque for Hospice at Home on behalf of Anna, who sadly was unable to attend.

The band continued playing music from (amongst others!) the Rolling Stones, Beatles, T-Rex, Elvis and Queen and tired dancers finally left the dance floor nearly half an hour after the scheduled end time. The Granary Hotel and “Jason and the Believers” certainly did Bromsgrove proud – a brilliant night.
