Celeb search starts as Karren pulls out

On Sunday 16th May 2010 over 2000 runners from around the West Midlands and beyond will take part in the annual Knowle Fun Run. The fantastic fundraising event is now into its 27th year and despite the well documented ‘credit crunch’ still continues to grow year after year.

This week the event hit the headlines with former Managing Director of Birmingham City FC Karren Brady withdrawing from the VIP role of setting the runners on their way and awarding the trophies. Event organiser, Knowle and Dorridge Lion John Heard said ”This is a great disappointment, Karren agreed to help us as long ago as December, but this week she became the first VIP in 10 years to let us down. We are now on the look out for another name who will give up just a couple of hours on the day and help us attract even more runners”

The 5 mile Fun Runt, which has been a huge success over many years, has seen the likes of Jasper Carrott, Don Maclean, numerous TV news, weather and radio presenters, and has managed to raise over a staggering £500,000 for various charities. Now as big as ever the organisers are anticipating another successful year with over 700 runners already entered to run and raise funds for the Parkinson’s Disease Society, Teenage Cancer Trust, fly2help and local causes.
