News from the MD Young Ambassador Final  

The MD Final to find the 2010 Lions Young Ambassador of the British Isles and Ireland MD 105 to go forward to Europa Forum was again this year held at Dudley.

The Hotel provided accommodation and function rooms required to stage the event organized by MD Officer Lion Jane Armitage and assisted by the 13 District Young Ambassador Officers.

The Village Hotel has a good health complex and is near to the Merry Hill Shopping Centre.

Dudley Lions Club provided the local backup to the Event with Banners/Signs/Media and arranged for the Mayor of Dudley to be at the Presentations on the Sunday Morning.

The District Young Ambassadors were welcomed and introduced to each other  on their arrival Friday prior to social evening and draw for Interview on Saturday.

This year most District Officers had difficulty in finding young people to take part in the Young Ambassador Program, was also affected by the January Snow Storms which resulted in the105W candidate withdrawing from the competition.

The Candidates were interviewed in two sessions on the Saturday by 3 independent judges.  The Young Ambassadors not being interviewed were taken to the local 10 pin bowling centre by Dudley Lions.

At the Saturday Evening  Buffet & Dance the Cabaret was provided by the Young Ambassadors  and attended by Lions from MD105M (including a large group of Lions and Leos from Ireland)

The Sunday Morning Presentations were attended by the Mayor of Dudley, Lions MD Council Chairman Andy Pemberton, the President of Dudley Lions Club and Past International Director Lion Phil Nathan.  The Lead Judge addressed the Young Ambassadors and congratulated them all for their Service Work but the judging panel had to decide a winner.

The winner was Shane O’Brien PP Roscommon Leos Club 105I for his work to try to prevent young people committing suicide in his locality in Ireland.

 

  The Shipshape Award for personal development (a days sailing in the Jubilee Sailing Trust Tail Ship) was awarded to Kayliegh Jones 105BS
 

 

Our Districts Young Ambassador is Eleanor Grice from Aldridge and she will address 105M Convention on 27th March 2010.

The Annual Young Ambassadors Competition is part the Lions Youth Projects which supports and helps recognize the Service Work done by young people in their community.
