Where there’s a will...  

...William Craner received a prize after helping to raise a staggering £23,840.50 for cerebral palsy, Charity Scope 4 Coventry and Warwickshire.

William aged 27, of Fillongley Coventry has taken part in the last ten Coventry Walkathons and is looking forward to this year’s event on Sunday 16 May in the War Memorial Park.

The Coventry Leofric Lions Club were so impressed by William’s dedication to the charity walk they decided to present him with a special award. The Lions mascot and the Lord Mayor dropped in at the Coventry Transport Museum where William works part time to present him with a Lions Banner and tickets for him and his family to enjoy a day out at Drayton Manor Park.

William has cerebral palsy. He has been involved with the charity Scope since he was a child. William said “I think its fabulous charity and I’m proud to have taken part in so many walkathons and to help raise so much money. I love taking part its great fun”.

Presenting him with the prize on behalf of the Lions, Lord Mayor Councillor Jack Harrison MBE JP said he was very impressed by William’s commitment.  “I think it’s fantastic that William has raised so much money, he has his own problems with his disability but he gets on with life and supports other people”, he said The Lord Mayor will be one of the judges of the fancy dress competition at this year’s walkathon, which gives participants the chance to win extra cash for their charity.

Walkers can raise money for causes and complete 1.75 mile laps at the park as they wish.

Scope supports people with cerebral palsy and helps them live more independently as well as organizing holidays and providing vital information for those with cerebral palsy and their family’s.

Chairman Dick Harris of Scope said while the charity is celebrating its 65th birthday this year it is also looking for more people to help it continue.  He thanked William for his efforts in the walkathon on and praised charity volunteers who push wheelchairs in the event. 

This year The Lord Mayor is the volunteer who with the assistance of members from the Coventry Leofric Lions will push William.
