Ordinary People doing Amazing Things

Sun brings out the Fun Runners

Forecast rain failed to materialise as over 2000 runners enjoyed traffic free roads at last Sunday’s (16th May) 27th running of the Knowle Fun Run.

Charles Hanson from BBC’s Bargain Hunt sent the record entry of just over 2000 runners on their way on the stroke of midday. Returning runners were relieved that it was not as warm as the 82F they endured two years ago when they struggled around the 5 mile course.

‘We were delighted Charles stepped in when Karren Brady had to let us down’, said organising Knowle and Dorridge Lion Adrian Harris. ‘It seems that the decision to close the roads on the course for safety reasons was universally welcomed by runners & local residents who set out chairs and tables and enjoyed a real party atmosphere again’.

The Lions were grateful for the continued sponsorship from Hunters Estate Agency as well as many other companies.

Lions say ‘Get fit, stay active’

Following another highly successful Knowle Fun Run, Knowle and Dorridge are now encouraging everyone to ‘Get fit, stay active and have fun’ by joining in their next fundraising day on Sunday 11th July at Packwood House.

As usual there will be a choice of getting on your bike for a 10, 17 or 28 mile family Bikeathon along country lanes and raising funds for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research or pulling on your walking boots for a Summer Stroll of up to 8 miles in aid of Diabetes UK.

‘Last July over 400 cyclists took our total raised for Leukaemia research to over £50,000. This year is the charities 50th anniversary year – that’s 50 years of fighting blood cancers. We hope your readers will want to help and get active at the same time,’ says Lions President Peter Smith. ‘If you don’t ride then come along and take a stroll along the footpaths and canals around Packwood National Trust house, get your efforts sponsored or just make a donation for Diabetes UK.’

Registration is essential for both events via the Lions www.KnowleandDorridgeLions.com/fundraising-events webpages or call 08458 33 58 94.
