Fog, snow, slush and ice failed to deter over 750 walkers, as they set out on the 3, 5 and 8 mile sign-posted walks for this year’s 18th Lions Festive Walk from Baddesley Clinton National Trust house near Solihull on Tuesday 28th December, but at least they were not cold.

‘We were delighted to receive over £3,700 in donations on the day. We hope this figure will exceed £6,000 when walkers have collected their sponsorship,’ said organising Lion Ute Smith. ‘After weeks of sub-zero temperatures and snow we were lucky to be able to enjoy the relative warmth of +2 degrees. It seems the overnight rise in temperatures brought people out of hibernation to blow away the cobwebs and walk off some of those calories added over Christmas. After 18 Festive Walks we have had every conceivable weather combination. We get lots of walkers who have joined us for many years bringing along their families and friends and it’s great to see so many people happy to donate generously to worthy causes.’

This year the Lions were pleased that a number of companies came forward to sponsor the event ensuring all the costs of organising it were covered before the day, assuring walkers that every pound raised in sponsorship or donated will be passed to the nominated charities – the Warwickshire and Northants Air Ambulance, Stroke Association, Dorridge & Knowle Scouts, and other local causes.

Anyone who missed Tuesday’s walk may wish to visit www.http://www.knowleanddorridgelions.com/festive-walk and download a map of the routes and walk them at their leisure.
