Travelling Lions

Whilst on holiday recently in New Zealand, Lions Ken Barker and Phil Rippington were invited along to a dinner meeting of Dinsdale Lions Club, which is one of three Lions Clubs in Hamilton on the North Island. The invitation was arranged by Phil’s daughter Emma who is currently living in New Zealand and working for a Lion Roger Bell who is the current Vice President of Dinsdale Lions Club. After an enjoyable meal and an exchange of banners the Lions were entertained by a local microlight designer and pilot who not content with designing a microlight for an Australian client then delivered it personally by flying it the 1200 miles from New Zealand to Australia.

A couple of days later Lions Ken and Phil and their wives stopped off for breakfast at a pavement café in a little village in the middle of nowhere. Seeing a couple enjoying their breakfast in the sun they asked them if they were also on holiday. “No”, came the reply, “we are on our way to a Lions Convention” On learning that Ken and Phil were also Lions and from the UK the husband introduced himself as PID Cliff Heywood and asked if we knew Lion Mike Cooke!

Doesn’t this just prove what a small world we live in and wherever you go in the world they know Mike Cooke.

And for those clubs concerned that Shirley Lions always seem to win the travelling Lion competition no we did not claim any points as of course we were outside of our MD!
