‘MY DREAM FOR PEACE ONE DAY’

The United Nations General Assembly, in Resolution 55/282 of 7th September 2001, decided that beginning in 2002, the International Day of Peace should be observed on 21st September each year.

In response to this important UNGA Resolution, the United Nations Postal Administration (UNPA) decided to commemorate the International Day of Peace by adopting a three year annual global peace stamp issuance commencing on 21st September 2004.

The stamp designs for ‘My Dream for Peace One Day’ stamp issue was obtained through an agreement between The International Association of Lions Clubs and the United Nations.

Every year The International Association of Lions Clubs sponsor a youth global Peace Poster Contest. Lions Clubs International created the Peace Poster Contest to give young people a chance to think about world peace and creatively express what it means to them.

Children from around the world, between the ages of 11 to 13, submit artwork which is judged on originality, artistic merit and expression of the annual theme.

The grand prize winner of the Lions Peace Poster Contest, chosen from the 24 finalists each year, attends an award ceremony at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

BHUTAN PEACE SHEET

Bhutan also chose to feature Lions Clubs International Peace Poster Contest stamps incorporated into a miniature sheet which was issued on 21st September 2005.

The sheet, ‘My Dream for Peace One Day’ featured six stamps selected from the children’s artistic 2005 poster entries.
