Ordinary People doing Amazing Things

Kettering Tea Party

Kettering Lions Club organised an afternoon tea party for senior citizens on Sunday June 15th at the Athletic Club in Kettering, which over 80 people attended.

Musical entertainment was provided by Barry Hales, and Lion Mike Walsh gave a very entertaining monologue. A game of bingo was played, and tea and biscuits were served by the Lady Lions.

The Mayor of Kettering, Cllr. Jenny Henson and her consort, Cllr. Larry Henson attended and spent a lot of time chatting to many of the people attending.

When the Lions delivered food parcels at Christmas, they were told by several people that they did not go out very much, as they were nervous about being out in the dark, and the cost of many events was too expensive for them.

Kettering Lions Community Services Chairman and his committee therefore planned this free event in the afternoon, and were very pleased with the result, as everybody really enjoyed themselves.

Kettering Lion's President John Inns, said the club were delighted with such a successful outcome, and they were already thinking about repeating it next year.

The money to fund this event was raised by the Easter Egg Tombola, held in the Newlands Shopping Centre.
