Godiva Lions – Golf Day

Godiva Lions Club held their 7th annual Charity Golf Tournament at Stonebridge Golf Club, near Meriden on Saturday 11 October 2008 after the event due to be held in September was rained off.

From what originally started off as a one off fund raising event thought of by a few golf enthusiasts in the club, it has now become a successful annual event both in terms of having fun and at the same time, raising funds.

The event, which hosted players from all over the Midlands and as far as Plymouth has become popular for the coveted prize of the “Godiva Trophy”, for the overall winner.

This year the trophy was won by our Godiva’s own Golf Captain, Lion Jaz Ghataurhae. There were also trophies in each of the three divisions of different handicaps and other prizes for the longest drive, putting competition, etc.

It was an enjoyable day for all the participants. The event was sponsored by Royal Bank of Scotland and other local businesses and helped raise approximately £2,200.00 for the benefit of the needy in our local communities as well as our international projects.
