Shakespeare Lions Support Samaritans With Help From MozartAbout a year ago, David Curtis – Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Orchestra of the Swan, suggested to the Samaritans in Stratford-upon-Avon the idea of a fund raising event. The Samaritans approached the Shakespeare Lions to help them develop this, and from a meeting of all three parties, it was decided to have a concert at the Civic Hall. The theme selected was “Mozart and the Movies”, and the concert was preceded by a Champagne Reception. In attendance were the three soloists – Sally Harrop (Clarinet), Diane Clark (Flute), Katherine Thomas (Harp) along with David Curtis.
The Mayor, Councillor Joyce Taylor and the Vice Chairman of Warwick District Council Councillor Norman Pratt were official guests. Being a movie buff, Mozart composed theme music for numerous box office hits including American Gigolo, Out of Africa, Ace Ventura, Batman, Bugsy Malone, plus many more. Such a pity he never lived to collect his royalties, but Samaritans did benefit to the tune of almost £1,500 A wonderful evening, enjoyed by everyone
