Ordinary People doing Amazing Things

Redditch Lions Club

Now in its 36th year, outgoing President Bill Southworth handed over the Club’s Charter to incoming President Jill Stray.

Reflecting on his year in office, Bill said “it was a great personal pleasure being President of the Club working to give something back to the local community, and to especially direct and channel our fund raising efforts towards helping local people, who for no fault of their own, found themselves in need of assistance not obtainable through normal channels.”

President Jill in laying out the plans for her forthcoming year in office said she wants to build on the links with the local community and those that support the Club in its endeavour to raise funds.

The Lions Fun Day has become an annual summer event for the whole community. Previously held for several years at the Neville Arms Pub, the event was switched last year to Arrow Valley Park.

Much of the success of this event is due to the staunch support of Tom Wilsons family, who have been associated with the Redditch community for some seven generations. Tom Wilson, of Wilson’s Fairs was only too pleased to help organise the setting up of such an event, and support the Club with the Fair rides. In addition, Tom Wilson’s family gave a generous donation to the Club’s Welfare Projects.

The Town can now look forward to next year’s Lions Fun Day, already booked for Saturday 20th June 2009.

In her first official engagement President Jill is seen here presenting a certificate of appreciation to Tom Wilson.
