Ordinary People doing Amazing Things

Castle Bromwich - A Push in the right Direction

Recently, Rugby Rokeby Lions Club held a sponsored walk at Draycote Water, Dunchurch in aid of the Coventry & Warwickshire Air Ambulance.

Many of you will know Lion Alan Ince of Rugby Rokeby club who unfortunately had a stroke in September 2007 and has been in hospital (until recently), making a slow recovery. When the club where planning the walk, Alan was disappointed at the thought of not being there.

Lions Tony and Phil White of Castle Bromwich Club were visiting Alan in hospital when it was discussed and Tony volunteered to do the walk pushing Alan in his wheelchair.

Unfortunately, the week before the event, Alan had a relapse and was not well enough to take part. Not willing to forgo the promised sponsorship, Tony was determined to continue and Lion Geoff Thompson of Rugby Rokeby Club volunteered to be Alan's replacement in the wheelchair.

They caused quite a stir on the day when they appeared in the attire shown in the photograph below

Alan, Tony and Geoff would like to thank all the Lions and friends, both in this district and beyond, who generously sponsored them to the tune of £600

This was a tribute to how highly regarded Alan is and a message to him that all his fellow Lions are with him every step of the way and wish him all the very best on his road to recovery.

Rugby Rokeby Lions Club raised £7,000 in total.
