Warwick Lions turn up the heat

Organisers of this year’s town bonfire were delighted with the turnout of over 5,000 people to the event at Warwick racecourse.

The Bonfire was lit by a very enthusiastic Cllr Elizabeth Higgins, Mayor of Warwick. On top of the Bonfire were no less than 4 Guys made by the young pupils of Newburgh school.

Despite a short downpour mid-event, so many people wanted to get in that the lighting of the Bonfire and Fireworks had to be delayed slightly. However the extra money spent on Fireworks this year ensured a really good show and while the bonfire kept people warm, the fireworks kept them enthralled.

All money raised from the event is distributed to local charities and good causes by the three organising clubs of Warwick Round Table, Warwick Lions and Warwick Rotary Club, and Dave Cooling, chair of the organising committee, is confident that last year’s record total of £12,000 will be surpassed.
