It’s a Knock out in Malvern

It’s a Knock out in Malvern

Malvern Lions recently held another very successful “It's a Knock Out” in which teams from Evesham, Tewkesbury, Droitwich, Malvern and two Worcester Day Centres for adults with physical and learning disabilities compete in a friendly competition. Each year the Centres devise and make a game to a theme and reproduce it for themselves and the other teams to play. This year’s theme was “The Spirit of the Olympics”. Those who attend the Centres also make a Joker with a cup being awarded for the best. The teams can't play their Joker on the game they have produced but can take part in it. There is also poster competition with a prize for the best

Strictly dance off in the lunch break

In September, once a theme for the year has been established club members start blanking out and repainting scenery to the new theme. The day before the event the repainted scenery and all of the other equipment needed is loaded on to a van and taken to the venue. Thanks to help from Worcester Lions and some of the staff of the local Festival Housing this year the arena for the games was completed in record time.

Just a flick does the trick

On the day competitors start arriving about 10.30 am. Once again members of Worcester Lions Club and some of the staff from Festival Housing were on hand to help and were joined by members of Droitwich Lions Club. DG Paul and his wife Jackie also came and helped judge the best Joker and poster competitions.

Joker cup winners with “The Bolt”

With the opening ceremony starting at 11.00 am four games were played before lunch. Towards the end of the lunch break disco music was played and most that could get up for a dance did so. With two more games being played in the afternoon the closing ceremony started about 2.00 pm with DG Paul presenting the prizes. Scores from the games had resulted in a draw but after some scrutiny Tewkesbury were declared the winners and received the shield by having won the most games. Malvern won the cup for the best Joker with the “Bolt” and a member of the Malvern team also won the poster competition.

After that it was time to pack everything away for another year.

The help from members of Worcester and Droitwich Lions was greatly appreciated.
