Lions light up Solihull

When Solihull Council needed 25 volunteer crowd stewards for the Solihull Lights Switch On they knew just where to turn. Having already successfully marshalled the Olympic Torch Relay through the town, they turned to the Lions.

Once again the Lions from Castle Bromwich, Knowle & Dorridge, Shirley and Solihull came together and using their previous expertise easily controlled the thousands of people in Solihull town centre.

Following a briefing by the Town Centre Manager walkie talkies were handed out and each Lion was allotted a specific control point. Following a few hugs they set off to their allocated places.

While the crowd awaited the arrival of Father Christmas Alex from CBeebies kept the children entertained. Finally Father Christmas, flanked by stilt walkers arrived and took to the stage to switch on the lights.

After Father Christmas left to carry on with his preparations for the big day the crowd gradually disappeared and the Lions were able to return home following yet another successful joint community service event.
