Shakespeare establish Foodbank

Following a request for food and help with gas and electricity from the local Parenting Centre for clients with four children, Mike Strophair Past President of Shakespeare Lions met with the vicar of Holy Trinity Church who instigated a survey to determine if there was a need for a food bank in Stratford upon Avon.

The research established that there are over 1,800 people in Stratford living in poverty. This research was published, a public meeting held and a link with the Trussell Trust was established.

Following the formation of a Foodbank in Stratford upon Avon collections of donated food were made at the Tesco Supermarket on 1st and 2nd December. Over the two days over two tonnes of food was collected by volunteers from local churches and other organisations as well as receiving both financial and physical support from Shakespeare Lions and Rotary working together.
