Over 1000 walkers including our very own District Governor braved the elements for the 20th Knowle & Dorridge Lions Festive Walk at Baddesley Clinton on Sunday 30th December.

“We were delighted to have the first rain-free day for weeks,” said Lions organiser Ute Smith. “It’s tremendous the way this annual charity event attracts so many walkers to walk off the Christmas pud every year, even when the water table is exceptionally high with lanes and footpaths totally flooded. Once again people were extremely generous with the Lions receiving over £5000 on the day for their nominated charities – Marie Curie Big Build, AgeUK Solihull & St Basil’s.”

This year the Lions had to put out extra signs to help walkers avoid the worst of the waterlogged routes, and unfortunately had to turn cars away due to the designated overflow car parks being only safe for 4x4s.

“We were really disappointed having to turn walkers away,” said Ute. “It has never happened before in 20 years, but this was probably the wettest weather we have ever encountered.”

Anyone who missed the walks for whatever reason may download the map of the routes from www.knowleanddorridgelions.com/walk and tackle them when the water table has dropped and the paths have dried out.
