Knowle and Dorridge Lions are pleased to announce that Nick Owen will get the runners underway and award prizes at this year’s special 30th Knowle Fun Run on Sunday 12th May. In addition Solihull’s own Olympian and medal winner Sally Walton will be coming along to run the 5 mile 2 lap course through Knowle.

On our TV screens practically every evening as the anchor man of BBC Midlands Today since 1997, Nick has worked in regional and national television since the late seventies. He came to national prominence in 1983 as one of the first faces to appear on breakfast television in Britain. He's a huge football and cricket fan, a past President of Derbyshire County Cricket Club and current chairman of Luton Town Football Club. Nick said “I was delighted when asked if I could start this year's 30th Knowle Fun Run for such excellent causes as Age UK Solihull, Marie Curie & St Basil's. I look forward to meeting you all, getting you off to a good start and awarding the prizes”

Sally Walton will be bringing her bronze medal won at last summer’s Olympics as part of the Women’s Hockey Team. She made her international debut in 2005 since then she has gone on to earn over 100 caps for Great Britain and England combined before winning her Olympic medal. She is also a keen football fan, supporting Chelsea. “Obviously as an Olympian, sport plays an important part of my life, so I love to see events where everyone can take part no matter what their level. The Knowle Fun Run is one of those events that not only brings the community together but also raises money for some fantastic causes. I am proud to be one of the celebrities in their special 30th anniversary year. I look forward to seeing you in May.”

The Lions confirm that the 5 mile Fun Run will return to its usual start/finish on Arden school playing fields with the 2 mini runs for those in years 1-4 taking their traditional anticlockwise route.

“This year’s 30th Run will inevitably attract a lot of interest and hopefully a bumper entry of runners,” said Run organiser Lion Noel Kinahan. “There are 8 weeks to go and already we have noticed an increase in the number of runners pounding the pavements of Knowle training in the recent improved weather. We hope that runners will go online and enter early at www.knowlefunrun.org.uk where full details of the Fun Run & Mini Run can be found”.
