Shirley Lions recently made a donation of £500 to Shirley Sea Cadets in order to pay for two cadets to attend “tall ships training”. The training for the two selected cadets involves a week’s training with full time regular sailors on exercises around Brownsea Island and around the Isle of Wight.
PCC Lion Mike Cooke who presented the cheque said “Shirley is about as far away from the sea as you can get so all their training is done either onshore or on reservoirs. This is therefore a real challenge as well as an opportunity for the lads to go to sea and do everything that the full time sailors have to do”
