Five local community organisations stand to benefit this January after their members volunteered as ‘Santa’s big helpers’ over the festive period.

Supporting Balsall Common Lion’s Club traditional Santa’s float in December earned £300 each in valuable funding to Balsall & Berkswell Hornets FC, Balsall Common Scouts, Berkswell Cricket Club, Berkswell & Balsall Rugby FC and the Coventry Phoenix Lions club.

Volunteers from each organisation joined the Balsall Common Lions as they accompanied Santa in a newly-extended eight evening tour around the area last Christmas.

Speaking following the official presentation of the funds, Steve Tidy - Chairman of the Hornets F.C. said: “I want to thank the Lions for their kind donation. We all enjoyed our night out as Santa’s helpers and it was great to see the joy and magic that Christmas still brings to the children. As with all the other organisations, we have plans for the money and look forward to spending it in the community”

Balsall Common Lions President Marie-Louise Marsden said: “Having volunteers from the five groups meant that we could extend our traditional float tour and bring Santa to more families over Christmas. Thanks to all involved - and see you next December!”
