Balsall Common Lions Charity Theatre Night Out 

This year we are again organising another charity night out at the Priory Theatre in Kenilworth to see “Present Laughter” a comedy by Noel Coward. The ticket price includes a Buffet Supper and a glass of wine or fruit juice. “Present Laughter” was due to be shown in September 2010 but, after we had sold all the seats, it had to be cancelled. This was a great disappointment to those who had bought tickets and we were asked by many to repeat the evening if the Priory Theatre rescheduled “Present Laughter” at a later date.

The alternative in 2010 was to see “Out of Sight, Out of Murder”, which also included a Buffet Supper and a glass of wine and was a great success. This being the case the Lions have decided to organise another night out at the theatre which I am sure will also be a great success.

The proceeds from this event will be going to our fund to hopefully set up a “Prostate Cancer Screening program” for men 50 and over in Balsall Common. This of course will depend on how many men will want to be tested and the total cost. The logistics of this are being carefully calculated by both us and the surgery.

This screening program is being organised by other Lions clubs throughout the UK. The Lions Club of Kingswinford & Stourbridge had a screening evening last year where 470 men were tested of which 26 were found to require further investigation and 14 were found to have cancer of the prostate. The results of this initiative highlight the need for screening for men to be made available. This program is also intended to raise the awareness in men of this terrible disease which kills many thousands of men every year.
