Zone F Laser Shoot Challenge

Wednesday the 5th August saw the first challenge for the Zone Laser Shoot Cup. Redditch Club put out the challenge to all clubs in Zone F for the honour of holding the trophy for the forthcoming year.

This new cup was introduced by John Reavley of Redditch Lions, as a social event for the members to get together for an evening of fun, banter and refreshment. There was a tremendous response with almost 60 Lions, partners and friends trying out their skills to shoot the clays out of the sky, well making laser contact that is. Before light stopped play everyone managed to fire 10 rounds of 2 after a quick familiarisation with shooting techniques. During the evenings event, a light ploughman's style platter was available to accompany the beverages that were brought by the participants

At the end as the winners were declared, “A fix”, was heard from the crowd, as the trophy was presented by Phil Lawrence, President of Redditch Club, to the winners. Yes - a Redditch Team won. The Vice-President's Team - Brian Rich, his wife Jill, Dave Pettifer and his wife Wendy.

On a sadder note, the whole event was in danger of being a non-starter with John Reavely confined to bed after suffering a back injury and Doug Wiggins of Redditch Lions, who had organised the food, taken into hospital at short notice. However, true to the Lions spirit, members of Redditch Club rallied to the call and made sure the event happened, all be it at the very last minute.
