The Inaugural Worcestershire Schools Girls Rugby Festival

The inaugural Worcestershire Schools Girls Rugby Festival will take place at Sixways on 16th March 2011 starting at midday and running through to around 3.30pm.

This event, sponsored by 6 Worcestershire Lions Clubs (Bromsgrove, Droitwich, Evesham, Kidderminster and District, Malvern Hills and Worcester) will see some 26 teams from 19 schools competing in both tag and contact competitions. The girls, aged 13 to 16, will compete in Round Robin competitions to qualify for final places.

Whilst the contact final will take place on the 16th, the Tag Final will be played in the half time period of the Warriors playoff match on the 19th March. However, all the participants from the tournament will be given tickets for this match so they can see the Tag Final and support the Warriors quest for return to their rightful place in the Premier Division! Perhaps Warriors will gain some enthusiastic new fans and the England Ladies Squad will be assured of players in the future!

The Lions were looking for a county-wide community youth project and this competition resulted from their approach to Sixways in May 2010. Since then The Worcester Warriors Community Rugby team have pursued an active program of coaching into the schools throughout the county, raising the profile of the girls / ladies game so much that well over 250 participants are expected. All are welcome to come along and support the girls’ efforts on the 16th.
