District Marketing & P R Workshop

Neil, Heather & Ken

On Sunday 27th March over 30 Lions attended the District Marketing & P R Workshop organised by District PR Officer Lion Ken Barker. Our presenter was Heather Yaxley who as well as being a leading PR Consultant has close involvement with the Lions through her late father who was a Past District Governor in 105EA.

There were two aims for the day; firstly to enable attendees to make Lions “memorable and remarkable” using traditional marketing and PR techniques and secondly to maximise media and public attention. The day started with a brainstorming session about what we want the public to know about Lions, identifying the core message of lions and closing the “reality gap”. After that we looked at why memorable and remarkable are the key to communications success and the steps involved in creating “sticky” communications that improve knowledge and recall of Lions in local communities.

We then moved on to grabbing the headlines by creating stories that are memorable and remarkable in generating media coverage and stimulating public action. To do this Heather went through a whole raft of tips to write a news release and to conduct a successful radio interview.

Finally we looked at going online and the ways we can integrate social media into Lions PR activities. To do this Heather took everyone through Websites, You Tube, Facebook, Linkedin and Twitter showing each ones uses for Lions.

Overall a very successful and informative and useful day with all attendees returning to their clubs armed with the two aims for the day well and truly met.
